Does Dr Kelly Deserve An Inquest

The attempt to deny the need for an inquest into the death of Dr David Kelley in 2003 dominate the news today. The pathologists who conducted the post mortem was yesterday standing by his coluclusion that death was cause by severed arteries in Dr. Kelly’s wrists exacerbated by advanced heart disease. You may remember Dr. Kelly was involved in leaking information about the Iraq Weapons Of Mass Destruction dossier after Tony Blair had allegedly mislead Parliament to justify going to war.

Funny, I could have sworn earlier in the week he was talking about Dr. Kelley having swallowed 26 Co Proximol tablets, way over the maximum eight a day stipulated when I was prescribed the powerful pain killer.

And then there are the contradictory conclusions of the private autopsy carried out at the request of the family.

Curiouser and Curiouser. No wonder the conspiracy theories persist.

  1. Conspiracy theories need;

    1. A lonely person with a lot of time on their hands (and a cat)
    2. The internet
    3. A story where the official line is improbable, or full of holes.

  2. On the one hand, we could do without knowing whether there is any credence to rumours that that a police helicopter which flew over the site looking for him, had thermal imaging but failed to spot his body at a time it was supposed to have still been warm.

    And maybe there is no foundation to rumours doing the rounds that there were no prints found on the knife.

    And maybe they are nonsense caused by loneliness and internet and there is no hole in the official line, but why then should there be a 70 year gagging order so we don’t actually know what the evidential basis is for that line?

    1. The official reason for the gagging order ‘to spare the family distress’ does not quite ring true when the family had had a private post mortem carried out and published the results. I wonder f the real reasdon was to save the government embarrassment.
